The IFRA analytical methods represent the recommendations of the IFRA Analytical Working Group. They are intended to be used as a common tool for the dialogue between the different partners of the fragrance industry. Possible modifications for the internal use by a given company is under its sole responsibility and should be validated against the original IFRA procedure.
As notified in IFRA IL683, the IFRA Analytical Working Group has developed an analytical method that allows the determination of the presence of potential allergens in fragrance compounds. This makes reference to the fragrance ingredients defined by the SCCNFP as potential allergens and which are included in the 7th Amendment to the European Cosmetics Directive for the purpose of labelling in finished cosmetic products. An article extensively describing the method as well as results of testing was published in J.Agric.Food Chem. 2003, 51, 6398-6403.
The IFRA Standards on limonene as well as pinacea derivatives give reference to the FMA method for determination of peroxide content.
This method is currently in development. Provisional guidelines are available for their HPLC separation.
