The Resilience of Bergamot Farmers in Calabria

This study examines the impact of the stability in the bergamot market thanks to the reform of the value chain. It took two approaches. Firstly, the results were analysed to examine what the reported impact of the changes were in terms of impact on, inter alia, profitability of the farm, its contribution to the household income and intention to invest. The second and major purpose was to attempt to quantify these impacts using the concept of livelihood resilience, measuring the ability of households to withstand stresses and shocks.

IFRA broadly welcomes the proposed measures. The Commission has devoted a great deal of effort to assess all the aspects of this issue and more specifically the importance of distinguishing the needs to protect un-sensitized consumers from induction and providing adequate information to avoid elicitation in previously sensitized consumers.
